The recall began on January 14, 2025, and escalated to a Class I recall later under the FDA; a Class I is a high-risk recall.

The activated recall stems from a retail partner alerting Quaker Oats Company that certain 2-pound boxes of the pancake and waffle mix contained undeclared milk and could cause severe or even life-threatening allergic reactions in individuals with milk allergies or serious dairy sensitivities.

According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, about 2-3% of kids under 3 years of age have milk allergies-anaphylaxis is a medical emergency that, if not taken care of immediately, can lead to issues such as many difficulties breathing and even shock.

What Should Consumers Do Now?

1.            People with a milk allergy or someone living with them do not eat the product.

2.            Throw away the mix or take it back to the shop.

3.            If you have had an allergic reaction after consuming the recalled product, get medical help and report it to the FDA’s MedWatch program.

A subsidiary of Frito-Lay, Inc., the Quaker Oats Company stated that they are working very closely with the FDA and retailers involved for the removal of all affected products off the shelves.

They are not been new to recalls. In December 2023, Quaker Oats recalled over two dozen granola bars and cereals because of possible salmonella exposure. In March 2021, they recalled Quaker Rice Crisps Sweet Barbecue Flavor for undeclared soy.
